Vision
The vision of the FWISD World Languages Department is to foster a culture of global collaboration that advocates for equity and access to ensure success for the academic, linguistic, and social success for all language learners in preparation for college and career readiness.

Programs

FWISD World Languages department provides a variety of opportunities for students to interact with language and culture outside of the classroom, including:

• Night at the Museum - An evening at the Kimbell Art Museum designed especially for middle school students
• Global Gallery Night – Language students serve as docents, leading discovery tours of the permanent collection of the Kimbell Art Museum and featuring works specific to the language studied
• World Affairs Council- Students attend luncheons featuring speakers such as the ambassadors of Canada and France to the United States, as well as international news correspondents and businessmen
• Sister Cities International – Language students travel & explore the international connections between Fort Worth and its global sister cities around the world.
• Study Abroad
• Language Honor Societies

The Bilingual/ESL Department designs, guides, and monitors quality programs for English learners.
The goals of the Fort Worth ISD Bilingual/ESL Department are:

• All students who enter the Fort Worth ISD in grades PK-5 placed in a Bilingual program reach full proficiency in both English and Spanish within five to seven years, pass all state-required academic tests, and develop sociocultural competence.
• All students who enter the Fort Worth ISD in grades PK-8 placed in an ESL program reach full proficiency in English within five to seven years and pass all state-required academic tests.
• All students who enter Fort Worth ISD in grade 9 or above and are placed in an ESL program meet graduation requirements in four years, including passing all state-required academic tests.

The Bilingual/ESL Department envisions English learners achieving high levels of language proficiency and content knowledge so that they will be prepared for success in college, careers, and community leadership.
