Project Reach
Hello Everyone!
For those of you I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet and as a Refresher for those I have:
My name is Irma Magaña and I’m the School Social Worker for our Pregnant and Parenting students here on campus at North Side HS. The program is called Project Reach and my goal is to work with our Pregnant and Parenting students on campus to ensure they graduate. I work with them on just about everything and anything that may come up: Attendance, Behavior, Monitor Grades, Counseling, Family Concerns, Child Care, Referrals, Medicaid, and anything else you feel the student may need assistance with.
If you are aware of a Pregnant or Parenting Student (both moms and dads) on campus, please, please refer them to me so that I can visit with the student about how I can help them such as earning attendance and credit while they are out of regular attendance. The sooner I can start working with the student, the better. My office is in the Student Services Center next to the library- if you’d like to stop by or send a student to me.
I need your help identifying these students. Please don’t assume that I’m already aware or working with a student because there are times when I don’t find out about students until they have already delivered. And as a result, they have accumulated lots of absences, which I can’t help them recover. I work closely with the Nurse, Attendance Office, Reach Tutors, Counselors, Stay In School Coordinators, and other staff to make sure we are helping the student be successful. If you think a student is pregnant, please also refer her to the Nurse or me and we’ll take it from there.
Please don’t hesitate to send me an email or stop by if you have any questions.
Thanks for your time,
Irma Magaña, MA, LBSW
